Elsie Blackard Clonce, 102, of Weber City, died Friday, February 5, 2010, at her home. Born in Hiltons, VA, she was a lifelong resident of Scott County. She was a founding charter member of Holston View United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School to an untold number of children. A practicing Christian, she lived the exemplary life by helping her family and neighbors in whatever way she could. She was a proficient cook, seamstress, a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Amberse Clonce, Sr., son A. J. Clonce, Jr., and eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a son, Robert David Clonce and his wife Lola, of Tacoma, WA; daughter-in-law Marlys Clonce, of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Richard Clonce, Eric Clonce, Constance Loosemore, John Clonce, and Sam Clonce; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Holston View United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kenneth Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Holston View Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
