May 12, 1926 saw the birth of a very tiny little girl baby in Wise County, Virginia. She probably weighed little more than three pounds and had a struggle entering this world. Her name was Elsie Juanita Belcher. Elsie passed away Wednesday, January 16th, 2019 at the age of 92 years without any struggles or pains. She had many successful journeys in life many of which coincided with raising her family and her marriage to Burl Freeman of 69 years. She was active in several organizations and volunteer efforts. She served as a School Health Nurse at Lynn Garden Elementary School, was a member of the PTA at both Lynn Garden Elementary and Lynn View High School and supported the Lynn View High band as a Band Booster.
She was a housewife and mother in the early years after marriage, then when Freeman Glass was opened in 1973, she served as the Business Manager and Cheer Leader for the business. She always had a smile when people walked through the door and was very dedicated to helping run a very successful business. Her volunteer work then turned to Church and Community, A member of Pine View Freewill Baptist Church and the Gravely Ruritan Club, much of her time was dedicated to those efforts as well as being with her family which meant the world to her. She called them Her People. During the past several years she had been dealing with some health issues related to Dementia and Macular Degeneration which slowed her a great deal.
The family thanks Dr. Robert Funke and all the wonderful staff at Mountain Regions Medical and a special thank you to Smokey Mountain Home Health and Hospice for almost 10 months of care in the home. Also, thanks to Pine View Freewill Baptist Church for continued spiritual support.
