Elsie Marie Dorton Godsey

Marie E. Godsey, 79, former resident of Holston Manor, passed away Friday morning, August 14, 2009, after an extended illness. Marie was born in Clinchport, VA, and had resided in Kingsport for most of her life. She was an employee of Empire Oil Company prior to her retirement. Marie was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. "Smokey" Godsey; her parents, Claude J. and Maxie Flanary Dorton; a son, Eddie E. Phipps; and a brother, Kent J. Dorton.

She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda G. Hutchins, of Kingsport, and Penny Campbell, Collinsville, VA; grandchildren, Jonathon Weatherly, Jason Weatherly, and Dawn Campbell; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanda L. Carter, Weber City, VA; two brothers, Otis R. Dorton and Benny K. Dorton, both of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 7:00, with Rev. Harold Shoemaker officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park on Monday at 10:00 a.m.
