Elsie Elizabeth Bass Monroe, 100, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, November 12, 2008 at her residence.
She was born December 23, 1907 in New Canton, Hawkins County to Isaac Newton and Minnie Boyd Bass.
Mrs. Monroe attended Broadview Street Church in Lynn Garden all of her adult life and played the piano for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Frank Dewey Monroe; four sisters, Mary Ruth Bass, Mac Clevenger, Hattie Price, and Gertie Forbes; six brothers, John, Spurgeon, Franklin, Charles Elmer, Wade, and Jessie Bass; one granddaughter, Teresa King; and one grandson, Rusty Moore.
Surviving are two daughters, Beatrice Monk and Alma June King; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services were conducted at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Evangelist Ronald G. Manis and Captain Brian West officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Garden of Everlasting Life at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
