Elsie Ruth Brown Mowdy, 92, of Blountville, went to sleep in the arms of Jesus surrounded by her loving family on December 10, 2009.
Mrs. Mowdy was born on January 12, 1917 in Corbin, KY, and resided most of her life in the Sullivan County area. She was a homemaker all of her life and attended Lighthouse Bible Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Paul Brown and Dollie Angeline Meece Brown; four daughters, Connie, Faye, Margie, and Carolyn; one brother; and two sisters.
Mrs. Mowdy is survived by her husband of 70 years, Willie A. Mowdy; two daughters, Sue Emmalee Gross and husband Ralph of Bristol and Burdetta Edwards and husband Ronnie of Blountville; four sons, Marvin Mowdy and friend Birchie, Billy Mowdy of Blountville, Kelvin Mowdy and wife Shelia of Blountville, and Danny Mowdy and wife Linda of Kingsport; a half-brother, Robert Brown of Kingsport; fourteen grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family extends a special thanks to Wellmont Hospice, Amy and Robin.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Lighthouse Bible Church with Pastor Ernest Steffey, Rev. Gary Rowlett and Rev. Rodney Deaton officiating. Burial will follow at Pactolus Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Terry Mowdy, Danny Henson, Robbie Schaffer, Jack Wright, Larry Weaver, Landon Camper and Zachary Mowdy.
