Elsie L. Weed, of Kingsport, lost her fight for life on Monday, January 20, 2014, after a period of declining health. Now she is out of pain and in her heavenly home with God and her family that preceded her in death. Elsie was born and raised in Kingsport. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and attended the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University in Philadelphia, where she received her nursing degree. Elsie then did further studies on her B.S. Degree at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA.
After returning to Kingsport she worked as an occupational health care nurse at Mead Paper. Elsie loved her Mead family and was one of the fortunate ones who got to make a living doing what she loved. She always loved helping others and did a lot of volunteer work until she became disabled from rheumatoid arthritis.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Ina and Charles Lemly, and sister, Doris McMullan.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Weed of Kingsport, daughter, Becky Britton of Kingsport, and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Elsie's life will be held on Saturday, February 1st, at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Edward James Mills, The Rev. C. Edward Osborne, and The Rev. Chris Harpster officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
A special thank you to the staff at Asbury Place of Kingsport (Dogwood and especially, Magnolia), Wellmont Hospice, Nina Oliva, many loyal and faithful friends.
