Emilia M. Harrison passed away peacefully at home Tuesday March 20, 2007.
Born September 5, 1915 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Emilia Marie Winiarski, Win, as she was known to all, graduated from Boston Children's Hospital as a registered nurse in 1936. Shortly thereafter she met Bill Harrison and they were married November 30, 1940. Bill and Win moved to Kingsport in 1942, when Bill accepted a transfer to Tennessee Eastman from Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY.
As a registered nurse, Win was active in many volunteer programs in Kingsport including health screening in the public schools, Holston Valley Women's Auxiliary and the Holston Valley Blood Bank. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for many years and is a past president of the Ross N. Robinson Junior High School PTA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Bill Harrison, her son Fred Joseph Harrison; parents Josef and Louisa Winiarski; and brother Kazimer Winiarski. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine Harrison and Kenneth J. Dwyer II of Orlando, FL, and Margaret Harrison and Kenneth R. Wolfe of Villa Hills, KY; daughter-in-law Mary Ann Harrison of Knoxville, TN; three grandsons, Patrick William Harrison and Andrew Brendan Harrison of Knoxville, TN, and Benjamin Wyatt Harrison Wolfe of Villa Hills, KY; brother and sister- in-law Francis and Ita Winiarski of Los Angeles, CA; and six nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors from 11a.m. to 12 noon Friday March 23rd in the chapel at St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Dominic's at noon on Friday with Father Charles Burton officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Edgewood Cemetery in Knoxville on Saturday March 24th. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Dominic Catholic Church Building Fund, 2517 John B. Dennis Highway, Kingsport, TN 37660.
The family would like to thank long time friends Wilma Henry, Ethel Bowlin and Jean Seal; and TLC Home Care Services, especially Louise Vaughn, Jamie Gilliam, Clayton and Eulala Arnold, Phoebe Kerns, Betty Lawson , and Emily DeFord for all their care and support over the years.
