Emily Daniel

Emily Howard Daniel, 92, passed away November 18, 2016. Emily will always be remembered for her elegant and courageous spirit and graceful determination in facing life's challenges. A 1952 graduate of St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville, she served as President and Treasurer of East Tennessee Association of Industrial Nurses, and was on the board of Tennessee Association of Occupational Health Nurses. She worked at Holston Valley Hospital, as an office nurse for Dr. R. C. Jones, and at Kingsport Press as an occupational and visiting nurse for many years. She modeled commitment to her profession, dedication to her church, unconditional love of family, and a contagious passion for sports.

She was preceded in death by Millege H. Daniel, her husband of 34 years.

Emily is survived by her son, Charles Daniel Brown (Brentwood, TN), wife Linda; their children Scott Brown (wife Harkness) and Ashley Brown Howell (husband Joe) of Nashville; four great-grandchildren (Matthew, Tallent, and Sullivan Brown; and Joseph Howell); stepdaughter F. Ellen Netting and husband Karl (Richmond, VA). Extended family includes sister Nancy Mercer (Big Stone Gap) and multiple beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. Emily was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Her family extends sincere appreciation to the staff and residents of Preston Place and to the dedicated sitters who formed a loving community around her, and to ICU staff at Holston Valley Medical Center whose compassion exceeded all expectations.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 Saturday, December 17 in the chapel at First Broad St UMC.
