Emma Jean "Jackie" Salyers

Jackie Salyers, 82, of Kingsport, finished her long goodbye and went to see her Savior and King on Friday, August 7, 2015. She was born in Scott County, VA and had resided in Kingsport most of her life. She was retired from Oakwood Markets as a cashier. Jackie had attended Rock Springs United Methodist Church for many years. She enjoyed reading the Bible, gardening and spending time with her family. Jackie was known for her smile and for caring for others.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, J.R. Salyers; parents, Amos and Lena Barbour; 4 sisters, Inez Carter, Joyce Salyers, Lucinda Guffey and Hattie Honaker; and 10 brothers, Wayne, Mack Arthur, Mac Resser, Bill, Arthur, John, Paul, Jim, Pat and Tom Barbour.

Jackie is survived by her daughter, Kim Scalf and husband, Daniel of Kingsport; son, Marshall Salyers of Kingsport; 4 grandchildren, E. J. Scalf and wife, Megan, Aaron Scalf and wife, Mary, Matthew Salyers, and Zachary Salyers; 3 great-grandchildren, Sullivan, Eli and Nora Scalf; 3 sisters, Minnie Lou Carey of Columbus Station, Ohio, Shirley Barbour of Kingsport, and Barbara Helton of Church Hill; 2 brothers, Amos Barbour and wife, Joan of Kingsport, and George Barbour and wife, Peggy of Gate City, VA, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Elmcroft Assisted Living and Smokey Mountain Hospice for all their care.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Michael Driver, Chaplain and Pete Barbour officiating.

The graveside service will be conducted on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be E.J. Scalf, Aaron Scalf, Matthew Salyers, Zachary Salyers, Pete Barbour and Rusty Barbour.
