E.P. Myers, 95, of Kingsport died Friday, June 22, 2012 at Church Hill Life Care Center. He was born in Hiltons, Virginia October 30, 1916. He resided in Kingsport throughout his adult life.
Mr. Myers graduated from Hiltons High School. As a center for his high school basketball team he played in the first indoor gymnasium in Scott County. He was a long time member of First United Methodist Church and was a current member of Mountain View United Methodist Church. Prior to declining health, Pete was active in the Holston Conference, serving on several boards and wrote a history of the Methodist Churches in the Kingsport District. He enjoyed gardening, was an active member of the Sullivan County Historical Society and retired from Tennessee Eastman after 38 years of service. Pete was a devoted husband, caregiver, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Elizabeth Cox Myers, parents James Melvin Myers and Florence Josephine Smith Myers, one brother, James Emory Myers and three sisters, Elsie Myers Musgrave, Lelia Myers Smith and Beulah Myers Hudson.
Mr. Myers is survived by one daughter, Dianne Myers Montford and husband, Charles Montford, of Kingsport; four grandchildren, David Richard Scruggs III and wife, Catherine, Church Hill, TN, Elizabeth Scruggs Whiting and husband, Darren, Nashville, TN, Andrew Myers Scruggs, Highland Park, NJ and Brian Edward Montford and wife, Angela, Elizabethton, TN; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The family would like to thank each of Mr. Myers' Kingsport caregivers, the staffs of Lakebridge Healthcare Center and Church Hill Life Care Center.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 26 at 1:00 at Hamlett-Dobson. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 with Reverend Jack Edwards officiating. Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be David Richard Scruggs III, Andrew Myers Scruggs, Richard Myers Beaird, Daniel Reed Beaird, Darren Nelson Whiting, Fred Hudson, Robert Teter, Kenny Taylor, and Frank McCauley.
