Erma Kate Kern

Erma Kate Moody Kern, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday December 16, 2006 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Sullivan County, she spent her entire life in the Kingsport area. She was a lifelong member of Emory United Methodist Church. Erma retired from Holston Glass Company after 53 years of dedicated service where she had served as a general manager, secretary, and treasurer.

She was an active and dedicated member of the Pilot Club of Kingsport for 36 years, serving locally in every capacity. She also served as Governor of the Tennessee District of Pilot International for two years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest A. and Margaret Ethel Shipley Moody; one sister, Jessee Lee Grills; brothers, Ralph C. Moody and Kyle H. Moody; and nephew, Ernest Lee Moody.

Surviving are her special nephew and caregiver, Samuel W. Moody; nephews, Robert E. Grills, Joseph H. Moody, and Daniel R. Moody; nieces, Margaret Sue Peterson and Ruth Ann Correll; several great nieces and nephews; special sister-in-law, Betty Jo Moody; and brother-in-law, Robert D. Grills.

The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will be at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Homer Roller and Rev. Carole Martin officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be M. C. Rodgers, C. B. ?Boots? Duke, Charles Matlock, and Randy Bishop.

Memorial contributions may be given to Emory United Methodist Church or to Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery at 425 Emory Church Road, Kingsport, TN 37664.
