Ernest Little, of Kingsport, died early Tuesday morning, May 11, 2010, of cancer. He was born in Knoxville, TN, on August 24, 1924, the son of the late J.P. and Ollie Bales Little, and lived most of his life in Kingsport.
In World War II he was a medic in the Army Air Force. After the war he entered the apprenticeship for masons at Armstrong Construction, where his father, grandfather, and four brothers were masons. Since he had been around brick and brick masons all his life, he finished the 36-month program in 16 months. Ernest's hobby was his work and making furniture for friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Amy Jo Pennington Little; his parents; seven brothers; and three sisters.
He is survived by his second wife, Amoret Wiley Little; a daughter, Fran Conkin; granddaughter, Rena Russell and husband, Will; great-grandson, Nicholas Markey; four nieces; and three nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor Brian Schuler officiating. Graveside services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.
