Ernest Valentine Smith was born December 4, 1926 to the late D.V. and Elizabeth Smith and passed away at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at his residence.
He retired from T.V.A. and was a carpenter. He was a veteran of World War II, a mason of Kingsport Lodge #688 F& A.M. and a faithful member of Way of Life Baptist Church. Ernest often remarked how good the Lord had been to him and encouraged the lost to get saved.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Winstead Smith in 1983, and two brothers, Dean and Wayne Smith.
He is survived by his wife Hazel Hurd Smith, two brothers, James D. and wife Shirley Smith, Billy and wife Charlotte Smith, two aunts, Ena Hobbs and Bonnie Flanary, brothers-in-law, William and wife Beatrice Winstead, Hisel and wife Betty Hensley, Winford and wife Ruth Hurd and Johnny Hurd, sisters-in-law, Blanche and Virginia Winstead, Vivian and husband, Joe Lambert, Lillian Hurd and Velvie Hurd, several Nieces, nephews and many close friends especially great nephew, little Jacob Alexander.
He will be missed here but left a good testimony when he got saved and was baptized one Easter Sunday. So sleep in Jesus? arms Ernest, until we meet again where there are no heartaches or pain, all will be joy and peace.
Calling hours will be from 5-8:00 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Way of Life Baptist Church with Pastor Johnny Gibson officiating, with burial to follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jack Amos, Doug Phillips, John Hurd, Charles Hensley, John Smith and Winford Hurd.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Keith Porter, John Henry, Mike Collier, and Alan Greene.
