Ernest Whetsel, Jr

Ernest Whetsel, Jr., 86, of Kingsport, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Church Hill Healthcare. He was born in Sullivan County in 1925, where he resided most of his life. Ernest was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Belle Duncan Whetsel; his wife of 23 years, Wanda Mowell Whetsel; two brothers, Rass and Ralph Whetsel; sisters-in-law, Mable Whetsel, Lila Benard, Barbara Mowell, and Odell Mowell; and brothers-in-law, Roy Bernard, Ralph Barrett, and Paul Conkin.

Ernest is survived by three daughters, Debbie Lethig of Vero Beach, FL, Catherine Jo Morelock of Rogersville, and Kimberley Morelock and husband, Daniel Butch of Kingsport; two sons, Ernest Teddy Whetsel, III and wife, Teresa of Kingsport, and Mark Whetsel and wife, Debbie of Kingsport; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Whetsel and wife, Wanda of Indianapolis, IN; sisters-in-law, Nell Whetsel of Kingsport, Betty Conkin of Kingsport, and Dorothy Barrett of Rock Island, Il; brothers-in-law, Jimmie Mowell and Roy Mowell of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 30th from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm with Brother Dan Dolen officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 31st at 11:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Kevin Rose officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Solomon's Temple Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 7659 Lone Star Rd., Kingsport, TN 37660, or to the charity of one's choice.

The family would like to thank the many visitors who spent time with "Pop" over the years. Also, the staff of Church Hill Healthcare and Caris Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
