Esther B. Jackson, 95, resident of Kingsport and an avid bridge enthusiast, played her last hand on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at The Wexford House following a period of declining health. Born in Uniontown, PA on March 12, 1921, daughter of the late Emmett H. and Lois Taylor Blymyer, she graduated from Uniontown High School and received a BA in Economics from Allegheny College. Esther worked for Frick Coal Company and Ohio Valley National Bank. She was a member of Wayside United Methodist Church in Vienna, WV and First Presbyterian Church in Uniontown, PA. She had been a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church since 1993. Esther will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend who loved to play bridge at Ridgefields and the Senior Center or anywhere she could gather a foursome to play. She was an accomplished seamstress and crafter in the fine arts of embroidery and crochet and was an awesome knitter and quilter. She loved puzzles and games and was a crossword addict.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Charles Milton Jackson.
There was nothing as important to Esther as her family. She is survived by her sons, Richard Jackson and wife, Connie, and Eric Jackson and wife, Nancy; daughter, Mary Lois Jackson; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Bacon and husband, Brian, Erin Bancroft and husband, Joel, Nicholas Jackson and wife, Laura, and Thomas Jackson and wife, Carla; and six great-grandchildren, Rylee Jackson, Teagan Jackson, Elsa Jackson, Cormac Jackson, Declan Jackson and Henry Bacon.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Robert Burlingham officiating. The Hills Are Alive Chorus of Sweet Adelines International will be providing special music.
A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 2001 23rd St., in Parkersburg, WV with Rev. Greg Markins, pastor of Wayside United Methodist Church, officiating.
