Esther ?Granny? Bowery, 86, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 20, 2007, at her home following a lengthy illness.
Born in Leslie County, Kentucky, she had resided most of her life in Kingsport. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and was retired from Holliston Mills. ?Granny? was a loving mother and grandmother.
Her husband, Claude Bowery Sr.; one son, Timothy Bowery; her parents Robert and Dora Pace, six brothers; and six sisters preceded her in death.
Surviving are four daughters, Carolyn Morelock and husband, Howard, Savannah, GA, Dora Coomer and husband, Larry, Church Hill, Phyllis Hill and husband, Gary, Atlanta, GA, and Vickie Carter and husband, Mike, Kingsport; three sons, Ralph Bowery and wife, Elizabeth, Kingsport, James Bowery and wife, Rayna, Kingsport, and Claude Bowery Jr. and wife, Tammy, Mount Carmel; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Baker and Pastor Fred Robinette officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
