Etta Louise McNew âNannyâ, 90, passed on Tuesday (April 14, 2020) at Wexford house. She was born May 16, 1929 in Sullivan County, TN, and had resided in Kingsport for most of her life. Louise was a member of Mafair United Methodist Church. Louise retired after 21 years of service in the nursery from Holston Valley Hospital.
Many around our community will remember Louise for her famous sourdough bread and five-flavored pound cakes. Her sweet personality and kind nature will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.Â
Preceding her in death was her husband of 57 years Douglas Wood McNew âDaddy Woodyâ, her parents J.W. and Mary Etta Gray, and her brothers Tom, Arthur, and Eugene Gray.Â
Surviving are her loving children, daughter Diana Sumner and husband Rickey, Hiltons, VA, son Dwight McNew, Kingsport; granddaughter, Tina Sumner-Lane and husband Craig Lane, Covington, VA, great-granddaughter, Madeline Grace Lane; sister, Helen Crumley, Kingsport; sister-in-law, Linda McNew, Lebanon, VA; and several special nieces and nephews.Â
The family will have a private service at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. There will be a private graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery.Â
The family would like to offer our sincerest Thank you to the angels who took great care of her from Elmcroft and Wexford House.Â
The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Childrenâs Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-1942, in memory of Louiseâs love of all little children. Â
