Etter Ella Vaughn Surface
Etter Ella Vaughn Surface, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 16, 2007, at Indian Path Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Hancock County on March 8, 1919, but had lived in Kingsport since 1944. Ella was a member of Bloomingdale Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Bill Surface, of Baltimore, Maryland; her parents, Pleasant and Minnie Trent Vaughn; four brothers, Clay, Chester, Earl, and Carl Vaughn; three sisters, Mrs. Milum Ethel Greene, Mrs. Wilson C. Jewel Solomon, and Mrs. Charlie Pearl Absher.
She is survived by her niece, Verla Bray, with whom she had lived for several years; fourteen other nieces; twelve nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Bloomingdale Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Joe W. Byrd and Rev. David Foster officiating. Music will be provided by the church choir and Rev. David Foster.
Graveside services will take place at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her memory to Bloomingdale Baptist Church, 3220 Bloomingdale Road, Kingsport, TN 37660.
