Eula King Dykes Massey, 76, of Kingsport went to sing with the angels on Friday, August 8, 2014. She was born in Sullivan County where she was a lifelong resident and was a long time resident of Long Island. Eula received many awards for baking. She worked at Krispy Kreme, Hardees, Ridgefields Country Club, Long Island Elementary School cafeteria and retired from Kingsport City school food service at Dobyns-Bennett after 26 years of service. Eula was a pianist at Bays Mountain Baptist Church and Long Island Missionary Baptist Church. She also worked in the prison ministry with Elmo Owens, sang in the Bays Mountain Quartet and was a member of Walkers Fork Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, step mother, sister, and "adoptive" mother to many.
Eula is preceded in death by her parents Nellie Cox King and Willie Coy King; husband Ellis (Pete) Dykes, Sr.; son Ellis (Eli) Dykes, Jr.; grandson Samuel Peter Dykes; infant grandson James Montgomery Dykes; brothers Kyle King, Denver King; infant brother George King and special longtime friend Ora Harrison.
She is survived by her husband George Arlen Massey; daughters Sandra Dykes Price, Patty Dykes Bragg and husband Rick; special nephew thought of as her own Larry Wayne Dykes and wife, Lori; grandchildren Kelli Price and boyfriend Aaron Adinolfi, Nathaniel Bragg, Deacon Bragg, Andrew Dykes, Sarah Dykes Bellamy; great grandchildren Tristian Bellamy, Johnna Bellamy; many special nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; brother Eddie King and wife Darlene; sisters-in-law Dorothy King, Mageline Schultz; brother-in-law Allie Guy Dykes, Jr.; stepsons Randy Massey, Billy Massey; three step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren and special friend Rose Berry.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport and other times at the home of 405 Amber Street, Kingpost. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 pm on Monday at Walkers Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Mullins, Rev. Elmo Owens and Rev. Gaither Townsend officiating. Burial will be held at Dykes Cemetery in the Beach Creek Community. Pallbearers will be Rick Bragg, Nathaniel Bragg, Deacon Bragg, Larry Dykes, Roger Martin, Aaron Adinolfi, Gary King, Sam King and David King.
