Evelyn Cantrell, 81, of Kingsport, passed away on Wednesday night, April 15, 2020, at Asbury Place Assisted Living after a brief illness. Born in Newland, NC, she was a graduate of UNCG in Greensboro, NC. Evelyn had worked for Tennessee Eastman for 6 years before retiring to become a fulltime homemaker. She joined Meals on Wheels of Kingsport in 1980 and served as President and head cook, at times, until retiring in 2020. Evelyn was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bryan Cantrell; parents, Frank and Virginia Hicks; and 3 brothers, Frank, Buster and Charles Hicks.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Harris Cantrell of the home; daughter, Leslie Wolfgang and husband, Tom of Germantown, TN; daughter-in-law, Juanita Hurst and husband, Shawn; sister, Deloris Wilson and husband, Jacky of Rolesville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
A family inurnment service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium with Dr. William Shelton officiating. A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be conducted at a later date once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
