Evelyn June New, 80, of Kingsport, went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. Born on December 21, 1932 in Scott County, VA to Maldon and Mattie Lane, she had resided in Kingsport since her early teens. In her early adult years she was an active member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church where she taught the teenage girls for many years. She later attended Temple Baptist Church and Vernon Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. New had been employed as a receptionist with Dr. R. H. Montgomery before becoming a homemaker.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her father and mother, seven sisters, and five brothers.
She is survived by her son, Terry New and wife, Rhonda; granddaughters, April Smith and Amber Allen and husband, Charles; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Allen, all of Kingsport; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to nurses and staff of the Wellmont Holston Valley CICU, Dr. Schwartz of HMG and nurses and staff of Wellmont Hospice.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 12-1:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm with Dr. Roy Graves officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
