Evelyn Love Starnes, 80, Kingsport, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Carter County, she had resided most of her life in Kingsport. Evelyn was a graduate of Happy Valley High School, class of 1948 and also from East Tennessee State College, class of 1952 with a degree in physical education. She worked as a secretary at Holston Defense from 1952-1961, while working there she met and married Patrick H. Starnes from Fort Blackmore, VA in 1959. Evelyn was a homemaker and a longtime member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church and a member of the Philosophy Sunday School Class. She was an avid sports fan, most particularly the UT Lady Vols.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick H. Starnes; parents, Alfred and Gertrude Love, and brother, Robert Love.
Evelyn is survived by daughter, Sarah S. Delinger and husband, Kevin of Hyattsville, MD; son, Steven P. Starnes and wife, Lori of Celina, OH; three grandchildren, Amanda S. Hagedon and husband, Matt, Elizabeth J. Starnes and Peter H. Starnes; two sisters, Mary Jo Allen of Elizabethton, TN and Anne Balch of Jefferson City, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 6, 2012 from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1:00 pm at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Weikel officiating.
Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
