Everett Don "Poppy" Christian, 64, Kingsport, won the battle over cancer and went home to be with the Lord peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 27, 2011.
Don was a member of Saving Grace Baptist Church. He worked at the Kingsport Foundry for 32 years and retired from Asbury Inc. due to his health.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Katherine Christian; sister, Eva Ballman; brother, Earl Andrew Christian; and two infant sisters.
Don is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ann Christian; two daughters and "sons", Donna and Randall Cleek, Glynnis and James Necessary; the "lights of his life", his grandchildren, Julia and Jesse Cleek, David, Catherine, Hannah, Madison, and Isabella Necessary, all of Kingsport; a special friend, he loved like a brother, Rick Goins; and special neighbors and co-workers.
A special thank you to the VA Medical Center, the doctors and nurses, Caris Home Health, his nurse, Kim Martin and aide Kim Wall.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 4 p.m. with Bro. Randall Cleek and Bro. James Necessary officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Posts #3/265. Those attending the graveside will meet at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m.
