Ezra Scalf, 78, Kingsport was called to join God?s heavenly choir on Friday, October 5, 2007. During his lengthy illness his faith in God never wavered, nor did he ever fail to witness to all with whom he cam in contact. Ezra enjoyed singing God?s praises in church from the time he was a very small boy.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charlie Scalf; his mother, Sallie Light Scalf; a brother, Ellis Scalf; and two sisters, Mary Lou Scalf Kilgore and Phyllis Scalf Campbell.
Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Jewel Hill Scalf; a daughter, Ann Adkins and husband Jim; three sons, Bennie Scalf and wife Robbin, Daniel Scalf and wife Kim, and Tim Scalf and wife Marlene; five grandchildren, Melissa Vaughn, Jason Arwood, Joshua Arwood, E. J. Scalf, and Aaron Scalf; two step-grandchildren, Jason Adkins and Chris Barnette; and six great-grandchildren, Brittney, Hannah, Maggie, Emma, Millie, and Mason. He is also survived by two sisters, Margie Scalf Carter and Dorothy Scalf Calton; two brothers, Talmadge Scalf and wife Jean and Floyd Scalf and wife Linda; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport or any time at the home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Kenneth Kyker and Pastor Keith Smith officiating. Honorary minister will be Rev. Orville Dolen.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. to go in procession.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
The family extends a special thank you to all of those who have been a support during Ezra?s lengthy illness. Your prayers, your presence, cards, and calls have been a blessing.
