Fay Bond Gillespie, 92, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Sevier County Healthcare Center. A native of Virginia, she attended Radford College and the University of Virginia at Wise and was a teacher in the Wise County School System for 31 years.
A lifelong Southern Baptist, she was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Coeburn, Virginia for 65 years, holding various offices. Since moving to Kingsport in 1995, she had been a member of the First Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James A. and Carrie Lay Bond; husband, Donald M. Gillespie, Sr.; four sisters, Leta B. Fleenor, Nancy B. Kilbourne, Bess Bond and Ruth B. Witt; and one brother, Bill Bond.
Fay is survived by one son, Donald M. Gillespie, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth (Beppie) Cason Gillespie, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted on Friday at 3:00 pm in the Nickelsville Cemetery, Nickelsville, Virginia with Dr. Marvin Cameron and Rev. Ron Davis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lottie Moon Fund, First Baptist Church of Kingsport, 200 W. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660, or to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
