Faye “Honey” Davis Pickett, 88, of Kingsport, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Born to Loyce and Frank Davis in Coldwater, MS, she was an educator by profession and touched the lives of many from pre-K through post college graduates. She was an avid collector of angels and was an active antique dealer for many years. She enjoyed dancing, and all types of music.
Faye attended Hernando High School and earned a bachelor, two masters, and a doctorate from the University of Memphis. She served as Director of Curriculum at Memphis Preparatory School, later as Science Specialist for Memphis City Schools and adjunct professor at Memphis State University. She held many leadership positions and was a speaker and presenter at local, state and national meetings.
Some of the positions she held were - Evaluator and consultant for SACS; Board member and state president of TAMS; Memphis State Delegate for 6 years to Phi Delta Kappa International; and President of University Chapter of PDK and honorary educational fraternity. She was selected to represent Memphis City Schools on a 12-member team from the State of Tennessee to Singapore to visit schools and analyze the Math and Science programs to find ways to improve the curriculum in the State of Tennessee.
One of her greatest assets was her ability to inspire and instill the determination to excel in underprivileged young people. She led them to compete against all levels of students and succeed in excelling at all levels. Her science students mastered the scientific method and acquired problem solving skills to apply in real life situations.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Taylor Pickett; children, Marvin Taylor “Skip” Pickett, Jr. and Tammy Faye Dixon; and sisters, Myrna and Frankie.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Cameron Taylor Pickett Dixon, Aliza Rose Pickett Naylor and husband, Andrew, Shirley Shackelford and Brittany Woolverton; half-sisters, Debbie Howell and Becky Mueller; and son-in-law, Dr. Mark Dixon.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 11, 2024 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
