Flo Ella Hickman, 91, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2009, after a short stay at Brookhaven Manor. She had formerly been a resident at Wellmont Madison House Assisted Living for 6 ½ years.
Flo was born July 29, 1917, in Scott County, Virginia, and moved to Kingsport at an early age. She loved fishing and traveling with her husband, as well as quilting, sewing, gardening, mowing, and raking leaves. She was a past president of Sullivan High School PTA and an employee of Singer Sewing Machine Company, Kingsport Hardware, and Dobyns Taylor.
Mrs. Hickman was a Christian and attended Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, James S. and Susan Alafair Blizard; an infant sister, Flossie; brothers, J. D., Freddie, Perry, Philbert, and Ray Blizard; and her husband, Mack Hickman Sr.
Flo will be greatly missed by her survivors including her son, Mack Hickman Jr. and wife Barbara; two granddaughters, Kim Ramo and husband Loam of Hendersonville, NC, Laurie Wright and husband Jeff of Johnson City; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Ballard and husband Brett of Hendersonville, NC; one great-grandson, Josh Estes of Johnson City; three special nieces, Lisa Blizard of Moscow, Ohio, Sandra Short of Kingsport, Jan Faircloth of Oakwood, Georgia; a special nephew, Gary Christian and wife Laurie of Kingsport; a brother-in-law, G. S. Hickman Sr. and wife Patsy of Gray; and several other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends from Pleasant View Baptist Church.
