Fox Greer Ruble, Jr., age 79, Kingsport, TN passed away unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, March 12, 2011 at his residence.
Greer was born in Knoxville, TN, growing up in Rogersville and Newport, TN, and graduating from high school in Hot Springs, AR. He graduated from Tennessee Technological University and served four years active duty in the United States Army. After graduating from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officers College, he began his life of service to others as Minister of Education at West Lawn Baptist Church in Mobile, AL, at Bell Avenue Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN, and at First Baptist Church of Kingsport, TN from 1966 to 1984. Greer retired from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. In 1985 he moved to Nashville, TN working with the Tennessee Baptist Convention as Director of the Sunday School Department. After retiring from the Executive Board of the Tennessee Baptist Convention, he moved back to Kingsport, TN, where he served as the Minister of Education of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Mount Carmel. He also worked for a number of years as a consultant with the TN Baptist Children's Homes. Greer was active with the Kingsport Civitan Club, serving as President, and active with the Military Officers Association of America, also having served as President of the Mountain Empire Chapter and the Statewide TN Council of Chapters.
Greer was the Son of the late Fox Greer Ruble, Sr. and the late Sarah Miner Ruble. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Grove Ruble 1995.
Greer is survived by his wife, Jane Harrison Ruble; together they have four adult children: Sarah Mai Ruble Hawk, husband Bill Hawk; Forrest Greer Ruble, wife Ann Atchley Ruble; Todd Harrison, wife Kelly Harrison; Nancy Harrison Gamble, husband Ben Gamble; and seven grandchildren: Stacie Hawk Carroll, husband Randy Carroll; John Forrest Greer Ruble and Annalee Ruth Ruble; Kaitlyn Harrison and Tobin Harrison; Blakely Gamble and Mattie Gamble; and two great grandchildren: Christopher Fox Carroll and Matthew Hawk Carroll.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Mount Carmel with the funeral service beginning at 6 pm.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. central time on Wednesday at Shellsford Baptist Church Cemetery, McMinnville, TN with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #173 and the VFW Post #5064. Pallbearers will be family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
