F. L "Lucky" Jordan
Francis Lamar "Lucky" Jordan, age 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
Mr. Jordan was born July 27, 1916 in Jefferson County, Florida to James Marvin Jordan and Janie Faglie Jordan. He grew up in the Jefferson County and Madison County areas of north Florida. As a young man, he traveled the south doing construction work. In Kingsport, Tennessee, while applying for a job with Frazier Brace Construction, he met his future wife Helen Virginia Slaughter of Fordtown, Tennessee.
Mr. Jordan lived most of his life in the Hixson area where he was employed by DuPont as a millwright for thirty years until his retirement in 1978. He was an active and dedicated member of Hixson First Baptist Church for over fifty years. Mr. Jordan was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lena; and brothers, Bryan and Hayward.
Mr. Jordan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Slaughter Jordan; his four children, Sheila Jordan Cunningham Roger of Memphis, TN; Francis Lamar Jordan, Jr. Dena of Tullahoma, TN; James D. Jordan Paula of Springfield, TN; and John Kirk Jordan of Long Beach, CA.; nine grandchildren, Abi Jordan Bechtel Aaron; Luke Jordan Jena; Ashley Reid; Matt Reid; Sam Jordan; John Jordan; Jenny Beth Jordan; Drew Jordan; Emily Jordan; and four great-great grandchildren, Claire Reid; David Bechtel; Noah Bechtel; and Peter Bechtel.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Myrlen Joyce Russell, St. Augustine, FL; Juanita Metcalf, Tallahassee, FL; Mary Alice Senterfit, Panama City Beach, FL; James M. Jordan, Jr., Tallahassee, FL; Lawrence Jordan, Tallahassee, FL; Betty Rose Goodman, Whigham, GA; Sylvia Ann Jordan, Thomasville, GA; and Jack Jordan, Tallahassee, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, August 11, 2008 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, TN.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson with Rev. Todd Adams officiating.
Interment will follow at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens, Blountville, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to aid homeless persons.
