Frank M. Brogden, 86, Kingsport, died Friday, September 6, 2013. He was born June 30,
1927 in Johnson City.
He graduated from Tusculum College in 1950, following service in the U.S. Navy,
1945-1946. After graduation, he served for a period of time as Director of Admissions at Tusculum College. He began employment in Kingsport with Holston Defense Corporation and then with Tennessee Eastman Company. Most of his 38 years with the company were spent in Public Relations and Communications, and, at retirement in 1990, he was an Assistant Vice President and Director of Communications and Public Affairs.
Brogden had an active career in Kingsport community life, serving as President of the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce, and was elected a Life Member of the Chamber. Other Chamber-related activities included chairing the 1986 Fun Fest, and for 20 years, he was the Santa on the Chamber/CSX Railroad Santa Train and Parade. He was a former President and a current member of the Kingsport Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the American Legion, and also a member of the City of Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen for eight years. He was a Director for the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency.
At the area and State levels, Frank chaired the former State Health Facilities Commission,
as a member of the Tennessee Student Assistance Agency and was a member of the State Water Quality Control Board. He also served for a period of time as Vice-Chair of the Tusculum College Board of Trustees.
Brogden was an active member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church and the Greer Memorial Sunday School Class, with a range of related responsibilities during his 57 years as a member.
He was preceded in death by his son Reid Brogden.
Brogden is survived by his wife, Rolien; two sons, Bob, Auburn, WA, and Russell and wife, Joyce, Kingsport; daughter, Kathryn and husband, Dr. Ron Allen, Knoxville, TN; former daughter-in-law, Teresa Azan, Nashville, TN; sisters, Sara Kates, St. Augustine, FL, and Eleanor Early and husband, Charles, Kingsport; nine grandchildren, Luke, Anna, Paige, Tabitha, Kayla, Valerie and Francesca Brogden and Veronica and Joseph Allen; one great-granddaughter, Vivienne Hill.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Mickey Rainwater, Dr. J. Spurgeon McCartt, and Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.
