Franklin Maynard F.M. Hill, 89, died Thursday, August 21, 2008, during a short stay at Indian Path Medical Center.

Born in Brighton, TN on January 4, 1919, Maynard was the beloved husband of his wife of 60 years, Annie Irene Ann Wells Hill.

Maynard graduated Cum Laude from Erskine College with a Masters of Science Degree and a Major in Mathematics. He joined the U. S. Navy in 1942, serving in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Massachusetts as the leading communications director actively fighting in six major battles and fifteen others. Maynard was awarded a Bronze Star and the rank of Lt. S.G for his military service. He was also a life member of the Church Hill VFW Post 9754.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Marvin Earl Hill and Tommie Maye Morrison Hill; and brother, Marvin Earl Hill, Jr.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his brother, Zane Hill and sister, Jean Chisolm both of Brighton, TN. Also surviving are his three sons, Cary Hill and wife Charlotte of Kingsport, TN; Eugene Hill and wife Sharon of Kingston, GA; and Sloan Hill of Kingsport, TN; one daughter, Major Debra Hill of Iraq; one very special friend, Pat Kyte of Gray, TN; grandchildren, Amanda Hill of Kingsport, TN, Robin Hill Bledsoe and husband Travis of Kingsport, TN, Dana Hill of Kingston, GA, and Russell Hill of Kingston, GA; and many nieces and nephews of Brighton, TN.

The family invites friends to share their special memories of Maynard by joining them at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday for the memorial services at New Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1116 Nelms Lane, Kingsport, TN with Pastor Richard Willis officiating.

Private family graveside services will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN with military rites by the Hawkins County Color Guard.
