Fred L. Coats, 89, of Kingsport, passed away at 3:00 a.m. Monday at his home following a brief illness. Fred was born in Kingsport where he had lived his entire life. He was retired from the Tennessee Eastman Corporation where he worked in the tenite division for 43 years. He was a member of the Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church for 62 years and was also a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Fred was a 50-year member of the Masons and was also a member of the York Rite Body as well as the Shriners.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia F. Coats; two sisters; and seven brothers.
Surviving are his son, David Coats and wife Brenda of Kingsport; two grandsons, Richard and Dustin Coats; and two great-grandchildren, Haley and Jordan.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday by Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688. Funeral services will follow with Rev. David Hambrick and Pastor David officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites by American Legion Hammond Post 3/265.
