Fred Maxwell Harr

Fred Maxwell Harr, 100, of Blountville, died Friday, October 31, 2014, at Wellington Place of Colonial Heights. He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, born on the family farm where he lived his entire life before going to Wellington Place in 2012. He retired from Eastman Kodak in 1976 after 34 years of service. Fred was an avid University of Tennessee sports fan and a member of Cassidy United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Vilas Bray Harr, great-granddaughter, Savannah Callaway, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

Fred is survived by 3 daughters, Pat Anderson and husband, Ralph of Kingsport, Vivian Harr and husband, Kenneth Wayne of Blountville, and Kay Sledge and husband, Jimmy of Brooks, GA; grandchildren, Amy Bates and husband, Alan, Ann Rye and husband, Bill, Ken Harr and wife, Carol, Susan Hunt and husband, Nathan, Wesley Harr and wife, Lindsay, Melanie Lewis and husband, Tom, Wendy Vix and husband, Roy, and Jon Filson and wife, Rayna; step-grandchildren, Joshua Sledge, and Jeremy Sledge and wife, Natalie; great-grandchildren, Andrew Bates, Anthony Bates, Macy Rye, Natalie Rye, Payton Rye, Leigh Morley and husband, Justin, Michael Harr, Abby Hunt, Adam Hunt, Jude Harr, Caroline Harr, Carson Lewis, Parker Lewis, Stockton Lewis, Kennedy Lewis, Bryce Filson, Luke Filson, Owen Filson; and step-great-grandchildren, John Ethan Sledge, Hank Sledge and Neil Sledge.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-7:00 pm at Cassidy United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Dr. J. Spurgeon McCartt officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted on Monday at 1:00 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Alan Bates, Bill Rye, Ken Harr, Wes Harr, Nathan Hunt, Jon Filson, Andrew Bates, Anthony Bates and Michael Harr. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Lewis, Roy Vix and Justin Morley.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Wellington Place.
