Ernest Fred Lawrence passed away March 2, 2018 in Kingsport, TN at the age of 79. Fred was born in Daviess County, Indiana to the late Henry and Opal Lawrence. He lived in Hawesville, KY during his elementary school years. Most of that time he attended school in Cannelton, IN and rode the ferry across the Ohio River each day to school.
His family moved to Owensboro, KY in 1952 and Fred graduated from Daviess County High School. After graduating from high school, he attended Manchester College for one year. In July 1957, Fred joined the US Army. After basic training at Ft. Meade, MD, he was stationed at Bindlach Germany with a border patrol battalion for 17 months.
August 22, 1959, Fred married Judith Carol Ball at Pleasant Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Elba, KY.
Judy and Fred graduated college at Kentucky Wesleyan College. Fred then attended the University of Michigan and in May 1964 received a MS degree in Industrial Health.
Fred joined Eastman Kodak Company - Eastman Chemical Company July 1, 1964 and worked in the Industrial Hygiene Laboratory for 32 ½ years retiring on January 1, 1997.
Fred was preceded in death by his brother David Lawrence, brothers-in-law Meredith Rogers and Tom Current.
He is survived by his wife Judy, his children Byron Lawrence and wife Lisa, Kingsport, TN. Kenneth Lawrence and wife Tonia, Greeneville, TN and daughter Donna Carver and husband Kevin, Moncks Corner, SC. Fred had seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Additional survivors are sisters Rosalie Rogers, Tell City, IN, Patricia Current, Edmond, OK and Marilyn Miller and husband Larry, Guthrie, OK, brother James Lawrence, Oklahoma City, OK., and sister in law, Margaret Lawrence, and brother-in-law, Don Ball and wife, Vonda.
Fred chose to be cremated with inurnment at the columbarium of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be at First Broad Street United Methodist Church at 2pm on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 with Rev. Jack Weikel and Rev. Joe Green officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
