Fred J. Tomlinson

Fred J. Tomlinson, 86, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 28, 2011, due to complications from an aneurysm.

A native of Scott County, Virginia, he had lived in Kingsport most of his life. Fred served in the U. S. Marine Corps tactical fighter squadron during World War II. After leaving the military, he worked at Johnson-Hilliard, where he retired after 42 years of service.

Fred was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Lions Club, the V.F. W. and various other organizations.

Preceding him in death were his brother, Carl Tomlinson; and sister, Addalee Creech.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vada Page Tomlinson; two daughters, Connie T. Warner and husband Jim of Oxford, Connecticut; Judy T. Urquhart and husband Jim of Phoenix, Arizona; one son, F. Alan Tomlinson and wife Virginia Hunt Tomlinson of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandchildren, William Fredrick Warner, James Alan Warner, Judy Tomlinson Ledbetter, and Lisa P. Harms; brother, Franklin D. Tomlinson and wife Betty G. of Gate City, VA; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call anytime Saturday July 30th through Monday August 1st at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will be private. Burial will be at Holston View Cemetery with military honors presented by the American Legion Posts #3/265 and the V. A. National Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, 5001 N Oak Trafficway, Kansas City, MO 64118-4697 or Crossroad United Methodist Church, 299 Bays Cove Trail, Kingsport, TN 37660.
