Fred L. Wagner, 74, passed away unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack Wednesday morning, July 25, 2012 at his residence in Blountville.

Fred was a native of Sullivan County and grew up in the Holston Community near Tri-City Airport. He graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1959 with a Bachelors degree in Industrial Education and participated in the Army ROTC program.

After graduation, he married Erma Sue Harr, daughter of Earl C. Harr and Cynthia Ella Harr of Blountville. Fred entered the U. S. Army serving tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam. He was honorably discharged, holding the rank of Major in 1974. Fred then pursued a teaching career in the Sullivan County School System, primarily teaching Industrial Arts before retiring in 2002. Among his many interests were genealogy, woodworking, and farming.

Fred was an active member of Indian Springs Baptist Church.

Fred was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ford Wagner and his father Auburn Keith Wagner, Jr.; an infant daughter, Angela Ann Wagner; and one brother, Robert Wayne Wagner.

He is survived by his precious wife of 52 years, Sue Harr Wagner; two sons, Dr. Phillip Lynnwood Wagner and wife Debra Ann of Lexington, Kentucky and Kevin Douglas Wagner and wife June Georgina of Johnson City, TN. The following grandchildren ; Andrew P. Wagner, Matthew J. Wagner, M. Todd Wagner, Jason T. Wagner, and Holly H. Wagner; step-granddaughter, Samantha Bouldin and husband Adam. One surviving brother, Russell Edward Wagner and wife Nancy Louise of Fairbanks, Alaska; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 27th at Indian Springs Baptist Church. Services will be held at 7 p.m. with Rev. Roc Collins officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28th at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
