G. W. Hakanson

G. W. Hakanson passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at his home.

He was born September 10, 1915, in Winchester, Massachusetts, and graduated from Lowell Textile Institute of Technology on June 1, 1937. Following graduation he joined Tennessee Eastman Company and spent 42 ½ years there, retiring on February 1, 1980, as an Assistant Superintendent of Acetate Yarn Division.

Mr. Hakanson was a charter member of the Christian Science Society, Kingsport, where he served for many years as First Reader and Sunday School Teacher.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Edith Nell Williams Hakanson; his parents, Anna Anderson and Gustave Hakanson, Winchester, Massachusetts; and a brother, Richard, Cape Coral, Florida.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Harold D. Holland, Scott County, VA, and their children, Kahren and Christy, and granddaughters, Rosemary, Sara Kate, and Delaney; a daughter, Sylvia Harris, Kingsport, and her daughters, Andrea and Melissa, and son, David, and grandchildren, Amanda, Hunter, Bradley, Abby, and Jordan; a son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Stephanie Hakanson, Tarpin Springs, Florida, and their sons, Hunter, Benjamin, and Stephen, and daughter, Alexis, and grandchildren, Josephine and Hannah; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Mr. Mark M. Lawson, of Bristol officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
