Gale Joh, 73, of Kingsport, died Sunday evening, April 11, 2010, after a brief illness. Born in Johnson City, NY, and raised in Binghamton, NY, he had resided in Kingsport since 1972. He was a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy of Pennsylvania and the University of Miami, FL. He served in the U.S. Army, and retired from the Eastman Company in the late 1990's, where he worked in sales and marketing for over 30 years. Gale loved to write and was currently working on a novel. He enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, and traveling. Gale was a past president and avid member of the Kingsport Kiwanis Club, and served on several community boards. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder and deacon.
Gale was preceded in death by his parents, John and Babe Joh, and his son-in-law, Dr. Les Burdine.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie E. Joh, of the home; daughter Camille Burdine, Lebanon, TN; son Dr. Hunter Joh and wife Rebecca, Wrightsville Beach, NC; stepchildren Jennie Deason and husband, Shane, Colette George and husband, Ron, and Ted Glynn and wife, Beth, all of Kingsport; grandchildren, Jackson and Walker Burdine, Josh and Val George, Kaitlin and Allison Glynn, Madeline and Peyton Deason; brothers John Joh and wife, Jane, Dawsonville, GA, and Erik Joh and wife, Vikki, Village of Golf, FL; and several cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A family graveside service will be held on Wednesday. A Memorial Service will be conducted at First Presbyterian Church Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle officiating and soloist Mark Davis providing music. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
