Garnie Joe "Joey" Peters, Jr. , 53, of Church Hill, passed away September 8, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Joey was of the Baptist faith and loved nature. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson with his family and friends. He particularly enjoyed riding with his son, Brad, often with his daughter and "Daddy's girl", Jennifer, on the back. Joey also spent time with his son, Tyler, working on his motorcycle and the majority of his time with his grandson, Shadon, who was the joy of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Garnie Joe Peters, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Willard and Clara Hamilton; and paternal grandparents, Ben and Effie Peters.
Joey is survived by his loving companion and soul-mate, Helen "Cookie" Peters of the home; daughter, Jennifer Nicole Peters, also of the home; sons Bradley Joe Peters of Bristol and Tyler E. Peters of the home; grandson, Shadon Grant Nelson; mother, Janice Hamilton Peters of Church Hill; sister, Susan Griffith of Church Hill; brothers, Richard Dale Peters of Rock Springs and Johnny Benjamin Peters of Church Hill; special nephew, Richard Patrick Peters of Church Hill; many special nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends; special "brother" and best friend, "Woods" and wife Joanie; and special friends, John and Katherine Skeens and Mary Burchfield.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport or any time at the homes of: Helen Peters, 118 South Holston Drive, Church Hill and 2116 Pinebrook Drive, Kingsport. Funeral services will be 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Andy Sensebaugh officiating.
Burial will be on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Peters Family Cemetery in Church Hill. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
