Gary Dwayne Dykes

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. -II Timothy 4: 7-8

Gary Dwayne Dykes, age 63, of the Pine Grove Community, near Baileyton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 10, 2014, at his home, surrounded by family and friends who loved him. He was born May 8th, 1951 and lived his entire life in the same area.

Before his extended illness, he worked as a mechanic and truck driver for General Shale in Kingsport.
Dwayne was a born again Christian and served as a Deacon at Chimney Top FWB Church, where he faithfully attended as long as his health permitted. Throughout his lengthy illness he never lost his smile and upbeat attitude or his faith in God. He would have us remember one thing; "Know Jesus".

Survivors include Ann, his loving wife of 42 years. A devoted daughter, Olivia "Libby" Dykes; a grandson, Gannon McGlothlin, who was the light of his life, and two wonderful nieces Jeannie Carter and Angie Lehan who loved and admired their Uncle Dwayne. He is also survived by his Mother in law, Mildred Zamarripa, several aunts, uncles, brothers in law, sisters in law, cousins, nieces, nephews and 2 special friends, Stacie Franklin and Anna Lea Stowers. He had a remarkable sister in law, Barbara Young, and an exceptional brother in law, Johnny Roberts, whom he loved like a brother.

He was the son of the late Lee and Grace Compton Dykes and was preceded in death by four brothers: Denzil, Dale, Donnie and Ronnie Dykes, and his father in law, Willard Moore.

The family will receive friends on Friday September 12th from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson funeral home and any other times at the home. His funeral will be held at 2pm on Saturday, September 13th at Chimney Top FWB Church with intermit to follow at Pine Grove FWB Church Cemetery. The Rev. Danny Willis, Rev. Barry Reed, Rev. Preston Patrick, and Rev. Wade Griffith will officiate.

Pall Bearers will be Steve Bailey, Todd Bailey, Chris Cooper, T.J. Fraysier, Jonathan Jones, Charlie Lehan, Gerhard "Gertie" Marburger, and Michael Willis. Honorary Pall bearers will be Sam Brandon, David Bright, Doug Carter, Bobby Coleman, Marty Jackson, Mike Young and Johnny Roberts.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Peter Platzer and staff, Dr. Claudia Pascalau, Dr. Christopher Klugewicz, Dr. Anthony Langone, Dr. J Harold Helderman, and the entire staff of the kidney transplant program at Vanderbilt University Hospital, his sitter Helen Payne, the staff of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home and the nurses and caregivers at Amedisys Hospice.
