Gary Blaine Shortt, 53, of Kingsport, son of the late Nat D. and Mildred Thompson Shortt, both of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Thursday, December 23, 2010, at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, following a heart attack.
Born in Kingsport, Gary had lived most of his life in Rogersville. After spending four years in the US Air Force, Gary graduated from ETSU and settled in Kingsport to raise his family. He was a patient, kind, and loving husband and father, and he will be sorely missed.
Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Karen Miner Shortt; son, Jonathan Shortt; daughters Brittany Miner and Allison Shortt of the home; sisters Evelyn McCracken, Church Hill, and Cathy and Jim O'Brien, Florida; brother Allen, Lisa and Christian Shortt of Manchester, TN; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the Hamlett-Dobson Chapel at 7 p.m. with the Reverend Garland Tipton officiating. Military rites will follow by the American Legion post 3/265.
