Gene Jones

Gene Jones, 90, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 7, 2019 at his home. He had resided most of his life in Kingsport. He was a 24 year Veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. Gene was a graduate of Sullivan High School and East TN State University. He was a retired Captain from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister and 1 grandson.

Gene is survived by his wife of 72 years, Joan Jones; 2 daughters, Judy McLaughlin and Patty Jones Kiser; son, George "Trooper" Jones and wife, Lisa; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers.

The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Josh Swanson officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Dude Fletcher will be an honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church, 301 Virgil Ave., Kingsport, TN 37665.
