Genese Dykes Wilkerson of the Lone Star Community passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Hawkins County, the daughter of the late Glade and Norma Harbour Dykes, but spent most of her life in Sullivan County. Mrs. Wilkerson was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Solomon's Temple Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Wilkerson, and 3 brothers, Dennis "Slick" Dykes, Virgil Dykes and Abe Dykes.
Mrs. Wilkerson is survived by 2 brothers, Miles Dykes and wife, Helen and Elton Jack Dykes and wife, Judy; 3 nephews, Frank "Ron" Dykes, Robert Charles Dykes and Wayland Ray Dykes; 2 nieces, Robin Michelle Dykes York and Susan Renee Dykes Wright; sister-in-law, Sue Ann Conkin; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 4-6:00 p.m. at Hamlet-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm with Rev. Chip McLain officiating.
The graveside service will be conducted on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Geneses's caretakers Barbara, Angela, Linda and Jessica, and also her neighbor, Ronnie Dolen for his caring support of Genese for many years.
