George “Sam” Childers, Sr., 71, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2019, at his home, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Sam was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. He spent 25 years as an iron worker at Eastman Chemical Company and was a well-known mechanic, who could fix anything. Sam accepted the Lord as his Savior in 1979 at Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Betty Childers; sisters, Carolyn Taylor, Elizabeth Lane and Elaine Childers.
Survivors include Terry Childers; children, Wayne (Jeannie) Childers, Tina Lane and Sam (Samaria) Childers, Jr.; grandchildren, Joshua Childers, Zachary Childers and Rodney Childers; one great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends who will cherish his memory.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The family will receive friends following the service.
