George W. Childers, 93, of 1520 Highpoint Avenue, Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
He had resided in Kingsport all of his life. George was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. and had retired from Eastman Chemical Company. He was a member of Apostolic Lighthouse Church and enjoyed gardening and fishing.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Childers; three daughters, Carolyn Taylor, Elizabeth Lane, Elaine Childers; parents, Bill and Carrie Childers; two brothers, Frankie Childers and Raymond Childers.
Survivors include his son, Sam Childers and former wife, Terry of Kingsport; seven grandchildren, Tina Lane, Wayne Childers, Sam Childers, Jr., Tracy Lane, Chad Lane, Elaine Crawford, Michael Taylor; fifteen great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; special friends Jim and Freda Castle and a host of friends at Fanslers Campground.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home with Pastor David Peters officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
