George DeVinney

George DeVinney

George W. DeVinney, born May 2, 1943, went to sleep peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2017, at Holston Valley Medical Center surrounded by his family. George retired from Eastman Chemical Company in 2000 after a 28 year career. At the time of his retirement he was Manager, Employee Benefits. Prior to joining Eastman, he served in the US Air Force as a captain. George was an avid sports fan, reader, and enjoyed trips to Disney with his family and to various beaches with his wife. In retirement, George traveled the world.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Walter DeVinney of Nunda, NY; his brother, Wes DeVinney and wife Alice; and brother-in-law, Dick Blakley.

George is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Walters DeVinney; son, Dennis DeVinney; grandchildren, Sydney, Maddox, and Griffon DeVinney all of Kingsport, Anderson and Kaelin Hatley of Johnson City, and Kate, Callie, and Meredith Barber of Wilmington, NC, Arlington, TX, and Kingsport respectively; brothers, Tom (Martha) and Don (Cheryl) DeVinney of New York; a sister, Audrey DeVinney Blakley of Fort Myers, FL, and a nephew he loved like a brother, Robin (Sandy) Cameron of Hattiesburg, MS; and numerous loved nieces and nephews.

Friends are welcome to visit and celebrate George's life with family at Hamlett- Dobson in Kingsport on Thursday from 5-7:00 p.m. A celebration of life service will be held in the chapel at Hamlett- Dobson Funeral Home, at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Joel DeVinney officiating. Honorary pallbearers include his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
