George Huettel Gose Sr

George Huettel Gose, Sr., 86, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at Asbury Place.

He was born in Norton, Virginia on October 11, 1929, the son of Samuel Hopkins Gose and Monica Marie Huettel.

George graduated from Emory & Henry College in 1953 with a degree in engineering.

As a veteran of the Korean War, he served both on the front and behind the lines in the Medical Company of the 21st Infantry Regiment between 1953 and 1954. He received the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

George was employed with AFG Industries for 37 years. His career spanned from research and development to functional design. Both his creativity and vision contributed to several patents yielding numerous products for both home and commercial use.

He was a proud member of Mafair United Methodist Church for 51 years.

George volunteered extensively with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, youth football and the Dobyns-Bennett High School marching band.

He was always known for his warm smile and compassionate spirit.

Survivors include George's wife of 51 years, Opal Dixon Gose, sons George "Chip" Huettel Gose Jr. and his wife Tammy Wheeley Gose, grandson Heath Thomas Gose, son Christopher Dixon Gose, sister Peggy Gose Beverly of Big Stone Gap, VA.

Other surviving family include Howard and Margaret Sivert, Carl and Patricia Cox, all of Kingsport, TN, Benjamin Cox, of Knoxville, David and Brenda Scott of Mansfield, TX, and Johathan and Paula Scott of Austin, TX

The family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 30, at Mafair United Methodist Church. The service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Kim Goddard officiating.
