George Calvin Rutledge, 92, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully Friday evening, May 17, 2019, at his home.
He was born February 9, 1927, in Hawkins County, TN a son of the late William Kendrick and Bertie Mae Marsh Rutledge. George lived in Mt. Carmel until he married Mildred Christine Smith Rutledge on March 30, 1947, at that time, he moved to Kingsport.
He graduated from Church Hill High School and was a World War 2 Veteran of the U.S. Army.
George retired from Tennessee Eastman Company in 1986 as Supervisor of Warehousing Operations. Both Mildred and George worked for Dixie Maid Baking Company prior to being employed at Tennessee Eastman Company. He was a route salesman and she was the Office Manager.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he severed as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Choir member, member of Building and Grounds Committee, Benevolence Committee, and teller.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Mildred Smith Rutledge; sister-in-law, Christine Smith; and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. John Coates and Rev. Richard Harris officiating.
Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tom Kerns, James Karnes, Lynn Shoemaker, Mark Collins Sr. Rick Hill, C. B. Shanks, Chad Shanks and Curtis Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
