George Simpson, 76, went home to meet his Lord on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at his home after battling cancer. He was born in Hawkins County on April 22, 1939. George worked at Modern Bakery for 25 years, and retired from GRC after 10 years of service. He was a member of Browder's Chapel Baptist Church, as well as attending the family church of Pleasant View.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. and Dorothy L. Goad Simpson; 2 sisters, Virginia Surcey and Ruth Crigger; and brother, Gale Simpson.
George is survived by his wife, Brenda Simpson of the home; daughters, Jennifer Freeman and husband, Terry, and Shelia Bingham and husband, Donnie; grandchildren, Stephany Lyons and husband, Johnathan, Zackary, Patrick and Madison Freeman; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Kilie; special nephew, Greg Simpson and wife, Mary; sisters, Ilene Huffman and husband, Bruce, Barbara Brummitt, Virgil M. Jobe, Lillian Sexton and Marsalene Hooven; brother, Terry K. Simpson and wife, Terri; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Wayne Baker and Pastor Kyle Falin officiating.
The graveside service will be held on Saturday at 12:00 at East Lawn Memorial Park.
