George W. Booze MD

Dr. George W. Booze, 78, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, September 1, 2018. He was surrounded by those he loved, having lived a life full of service to his patients and community.

George was born in Roanoke, Virginia and grew up in Buchanan, Virginia. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in Hampden Sydney, Virginia and received his medical degree from The University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia. He interned at The University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa and was a Flight Surgeon in the Air Force, Plattsburg, New York. He then completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Endocrinology, at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. He was an instructor in Medicine at Vanderbilt University and lectured to medical students at Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee. He began Private Practice of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology in Kingsport in January, 1975, with Indian Path Brookside Medical Group. He was a founding member of the Kingsport Diabetes Association, and a Charter Member of The American Society of Clinical Endocrinologists. He remained active as a community volunteer, and served as an Elder and member of First Presbyterian Church. After 35 years at Brookside, he proudly served the American Veterans in Mountain Home, Tennessee from 2010 until present.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Webster E. and Anna Alphin Booze, and a brother, Webster E. Booze, Jr.

George is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judith, his son, Michael William Booze of Carrboro, North Carolina, his daughter, Leanna Booze Renfro (David) and precious grandson, William David Renfro of Little Rock, Arkansas. His sister Rebecca Wampler (Frank) of Springfield, New Jersey, brother Charles E. Booze (Margaret) of Marion, Pennsylvania, Kitty Sue Booze of Buchanan, Virginia, sister-in-law Catherine Leake Luna (John) of Fort Madison, Iowa and brother-in-law Michael J. Leake (Barbara) of Richardson, Texas, also survive.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sharon Amstutz officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. A private graveside service will be held in Buchanan, Virginia at a later date.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to our neighbors, Dr. Robert and Anne Williams and Matt Anthony for all their support and help during this time.
